Gifts of Stock and Securities
When you make an outright gift to the Museum of Vision, your contribution can be put to work immediately — either providing funding for current preservation projects or helping to sustain its treasured archives.
An outright gift may be composed of appreciated securities, stocks, and bonds. These provide considerable tax advantages when transferred to the FAAO before they are sold. If you have held your securities for more than one year, you may find that your gift will provide a twofold tax benefit, creating an income-tax deduction as well as helping avoid the capital-gains tax that would have been due on their sale. Please consult your tax advisor for more information. The DTC instructions provide the necessary information for the transfer or you can contact Karen Duke at 415-447-0356.
Thank you for considering a gift of securities to The Foundation of American Academy of Ophthalmology. Please follow these instructions for your stockbroker to wire transfer your stock to the Academy Foundation account at Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.
In addition, please provide the Foundation Administration department (see address below) the following information *prior* to the transfer so that we can make Wells Fargo aware of the impending transaction:
1.Your name, address and telephone number
2.Your gift designation (for instance, gift to EyeCare America, Public Service, Museum of Vision or International Assistance).
3.Name of stock brokerage
4.Name of stock
5.Number of shares being transferred
6.Approximate value of transfer
