Description

Depicts Martin Folkes (on left) holding a pair of spectacles while looking at a pocket watch. Joseph Addison (on right) is watching him. As published in "Graphic Illustrations by Hogarth from Pictures, Drawings and Scarce Prints in the Possession of Samuel Ireland, Author of this Work." Book was printed in 1794. Samuel Ireland claimed that he owned a pen and ink drawing by Hogarth and had it reproduced for the book, hense it reads along the bottom "S. Ireland fecit". The location of the original drawing is unknown.
